Join us at Open Signal on Tuesday, October 20th from 5:30–8 PM for a special Community Media Day open house and screening of Portland Community Media Greatest Hits!

For more than four decades, community media in Portland has created space for people to make art, document their communities, share ideas, participate in civic life, and reach audiences outside traditional media gatekeeping. Community Media Day is an opportunity to celebrate that history while also looking ahead to what community media can make possible next.

Drop in for sweet treats and hot drinks, explore our studios and gear library, mix, mingle, and connect with the people, stories, art, ideas, and wonderfully unexpected things that become possible when communities take over the signal!

Youth Media Makers check this out! Our Youth Media Collective is about to start up again and there is still time to join.

This opportunity is for teens ages 14-18 and runs on Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm to 7:30pm starting with an orientation on September 23rd, 2026 and ending with a screening and celebration in March 2027.

Through the Collective youth will explore the intersections of media arts and wellbeing while learning to produce their own content — adding their voice to the media landscape! Topics covered will include media literacy, youth mental health, cinematography, studio production, journalism and storytelling + more.

Participants will have the opportunity to train on and check out production equipment, talk with guest filmmakers and professionals, and tell their stories through video.

We’re excited to participate in @converge_45 by broadcasting @anoutrecordings new video work "Street Meetz" on our channels!

Vo presents Street Meetz, a new “vox populi” video project shaped by the spirit of public access television and cult documentaries like Heavy Metal Parking Lot (1986). Filmed through conversations with strangers in public spaces around Portland, the project demonstrates how even brief, unscripted exchanges can create a sense of connection and community.
